Story of T3 (2004)

Despite the patter of the rain, a man heard the piteous cries of a kitten.

He found the cries coming from a kitten in a drain.

When he picked up the kitten, he was utterly shocked to find that one of his hind leg was missing!

His wife called SY of MettaCattery.

Despite having to care for more that 120 cats, several dogs, a rabbit and a chinchilla. SY Just couldn’t say no. He was named T3 by a volunteer.

A week after he was brought to the cattery, he was brought to Allpets and Aqualife clinic at Jalan Kayu for treatment of the pain at the stump. He was given painkiller.

On the 28th of May, T3 underwent an emergency operation to trim the stump as the bone fragments were causing incessant pain.

The vet couldn’t be 100% certain that the loss of his hind leg was due to human cruelty. He said accidental loss of his limb could not be ruled out.

Nonetheless, the pain that T3 has experienced is excruciatingly vivid when we look at his wound and at his photos.

29th May 2004: Helen brought T3 from the clinic to a foster home his afternoon. Helen has taken photos to be posted here soon.

Collected T3 from the clinic today. He was crying out for attention. The sight of him cut from the hip makes me sick but the vet said that it had to be done so that in the long term he will not suffer from the bone protruding into the skin. We are not sure what other problems might come out from this. Right now he is being fostered by a volunteer but the best for him would be to go into a loving and secure home where he will be treated with lots of love to make up for his suffering.

(T3 is aka Beckham!)

“Beckham is doing fine. He’s very active and affectionate, likes to play, jump around and do stuff that all normal kittens do. Despite having only three legs, he moves around very well.

“Beckham 很好,他很活跃, 亲切友好,喜欢玩耍.不顾只有三只脚,四处跳动,与其它的小猫一样.

However, he is rather inconvenienced at the moment thanks to the Victorian collar, which keeps him from licking and biting surgical wound. We remove once in a while, when he’s eating – must set him free sometimes, otherwise quite poor thing …

Because of this collar, he often can’t see where he’s going and trends to end up playing around in his litter bin.

Once, he couldn’t get outta there after shitting, so he stepped all over his shit as well as over his quilt!

I do not know his would is healing well, but there’s no discharge pus and all that, so I guess it’s find…

He’s being confined to a small, comfortable area as he’s not allowed to play with the rest, but we let him out once in a while. We also allow the other kittens to visit him at times too! They are all pretty close and enjoy one another’s company.

Beckham’s my favourite kitten! Muak!”

Beckham

7 June 2004, 9pm. SMS from SY “Will pick up T3 from foster home on the 10th of June for review by the vet and for STO (removal of stitches). He is very cheerful kitten, full of energy!”

7th June 2004, 9pm.

Despite the terribly painful event in much an early stage of his life, T3 retains the sweet fun-loving and trusting nature of a home kitten.

Are you able to bring him home to shelter him from the harshness of life on the streets?

He’s very playful. He loves to be carried and will purr non-stop. He can climb up divan-bed’s height. Loves human food. He dashes from hall to kitchen and back. I guess that’s how he keeps his weight down.

Of the kind old lady who would pick him up very gently;

Oliver would gaze into her kind eyes Oliver

And he would put forth his front paws

To feel her wrinkled cheeks;

He would scurry forth

And stood on the edge of a rain puddle

Oliver gazed down and cocked his head Oliver

At the friend who would always wait for him

Pet Clinic.

His condition was “not good” and SY brought him back to MettaCattery this morning.

He just passed away in his home for the last 10 years, in the presence of his feline and human friends. It was a “good death”.

“When you transform your view, then you will realize that it is like watching leaves fall from the trees. When they get old and dry, they fall from the trees. And when the season comes, they begin to appear again. Would anyone cry when leaves fall, or laugh when they grow? If you did, you would be insane, wouldn’t you? It is just this much. If we can see things in this way, we will be okay. We will know that this is just the natural order of things. It doesn’t matter how many births we undergo, it will always be like this. When one studies Dhamma, gains clear knowledge and undergoes a change of world view like this, one will realize peace and be free of bewilderment about the phenomenon of this life. “ – Page 33, “Everything is Teaching Us – a collection of teachings by Ajahn Chah”

“To learn really to help those who are dying is to begin to become fearless and responsible about our own dying, and to find in ourselves the beginnings of an unbounded compassion that we may have never suspected. “ – Sogyal Rinpoche.
